Weekend Snapshots: A Studio

I didn't get around to taking many snapshots this weekend because honestly, you wouldn't want to see most of them. A lot of this weekend was spent cleaning out and let me tell you friends, it was not pretty. Well the end result is pretty, but wading through 5 years of accumulated "stuff" was not. We still have some work to do, but N and I were able to finally clean out enough to get a working studio set up. Words cannot express how excited I am!

It's not much, but its enough for me: a sunny little room at the back of our house. The natural light is wonderful; the view is lovely and private (if you can overlook the ugly green monstrosity that is a former garage in our backyard like I do); and there is actually space to spread out, work and get all my supplies organized!

I'm a happy lady and my succulents seem very happy with their sunny new home too!

Weekend Snapshots

This weekend was especially good. I don't know if it was the gorgeous weather or the fun artsy activities or just the fact that I was able to really relax for the first time in what seems like ages, but it was GOOD my friends. I did my best to capture some of the weekend's greatness with my camera phone.

We took a jaunt over to Laguna Gloria to walk around the grounds and see some gorgeous lake views. We especially liked the male peacock we spied up in a tree. He was gorgeous - the most indescribable peacock blue I've ever see!

We also headed over to the Blanton Museum of Art specifically to check out their Hudson River School exhibition, but I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed their Go West! exhibition. N particularly like the more contemporary art where he was better able to study some of the painterly technique and brushstrokes the artists employed.

Saturday evening, I was fortunate to attend a performance by Ballet Austin of Light/The Holocaust & Humanity Project with my wonderful mother. The performance was jaw-dropping - intensely powerful and beautiful - I came out of there with a sort of different view on life.

The rest of the weekend was spent outside enjoying the gorgeous weather - taking Lily for walks in the park and spending lots of time on our back deck under the umbrella reading, dining al fresco and watching the birds. As N put it: enjoying la dulce vita!

More Weekend Snapshots

Aside from our Mt Bonnell excursion, this weekend was chock full or artistic inspiration. From cooking some wonderful meals, including Browned Butter Gnocchi and Arroz con Pollo, to watching some great movies and N doing some serious artistic painting. He's creating some really good stuff - I tell you, he's got the artistic genius running through his veins right now! And it wouldn't be a weekend without lots of time with Lily: snuggles and walks galore!

Weekend Snapshots

This past weekend was spent relaxing and crafting, in almost equal parts. The long weekend allowed me the time to reflect on the resolutions I've made for myself and to begin acting on them. Aside from watching some good movies on the couch with my new kilim pillow (thanks to my wonderfully thoughtful brother and sister-in-law) indulging in some decadent chocolate and drinking many chai teas, I was able to hammer out some designs and concepts I've had floating in my head for some time. It was definitely a most satisfying weekend.

Weekend Snapshots

I spent another weekend in full craft mode, this time working on some Thanksgiving projects. It's funny, these past few weekends I've been in this manic state of DIY, jumping from one project to another in excited anticipation, barely finishing one before I start another. I suppose it could be my way of escaping reality somewhat, but hey, whatever gets me by, right?

Farm fresh eggs; look at those colors!

Glitter paint to sparkle things up

It's been wonderful to feel motivated again to work on projects outside of work. I have a feeling good things are going to happen, especially because I have some wonderful people encouraging me to pursue them.

Weekend Snapshots

Last weekend was full of goodness and preparation for Autumn's arrival: long dinners at new-to-us restaurants, pumpkin roasting, leisurely walks in the park with Lily, and a bit of new home decor. There's nothing like changing up the usual routine to usher in a new season both weather-wise and life-wise.

Pumpkin was unintentionally the predominant theme of this weekend, both in taste and in color. I suppose when you have two sugar pumpkins sitting in your kitchen, they have a way of taking over!

Weekend Snapshots

Our long three day weekend was filled with lots of lovely things, like...
 Toast with lots of jam...
 Red ripened tomatoes...
 Hot hot peppers...
 A sea of sunflowers...
 Sunset walks...
 An indifferent giraffe...
 Midday naps...
 Bbq sandwiches and apple slaw...
 Good good time fillers...
And homemade caramel brownie sundaes!

Hoping your long weekend was as deliciously lovely as ours!
