Oh What Beauty Abounds Us

The morning was lovely and crisp; it was the perfect day to adventure out in search of beauty. We found lots of it at Mount Bonnell: scattered rose petals, lush greenery gleaning from the day before's rain and sunshine peaking through the clouds. Oh, what beauty abounds us!

Photography: Souvenir Foto School

Besotted Brand Blog
I'm about to embark upon a journey...a photographic journey that is. In keeping with some of the goals I made for myself this year, specifically that one about exploring my creative side, I decided to join the Souvenir Foto School. What is that? Well, it's a sort of online photography class hosted by Miss B at Besotted Brand Blog and Michelle at Creatocrat, where a group of us (about 50) will take a photo a day for 30 days using the alphabet as a guide and be held accountable for posting that photo each day. As  a group, we'll be able to learn from each other, ask questions and watch our photography progress (and hopefully improve) as the month goes on.

Class starts tomorrow and I couldn't be more excited. Especially because it means I'll be here, on the blog, posting a photo everyday, so you all can follow along with my progress. Accountability to all of you as well...if that isn't motivation, I don't know what is! Here's to a February full of photos!

Inspiration: Janice Wong Studio

Wednesday, July 27, 2011 Sweet Spot

Janice Wong is a visual artist living in Vancouver. I discovered her work and her spark project through Tumblr and instantly fell in inspiration. She describes her project like this:

"One thing leads to another...you never know when you'll see something that makes you stop and wonder. Spark is where I am posting my wondering.
The premise is simple. Make a photograph as a record of something that piques my curiosity, something that defines my day."

Wong's photos, to me, are so aesthetically interesting, full of visual depth, pops of bright color and a variety of textures. There is an unexpectedness and an intimacy to her photos that I love too; the way compositions are cropped and the play of light and dark. Here are some of my favorites:
